How to convert Excel to CSV

Click Open an Excel file and choose a workbook. Excel 2007 and later (.xlsx), older .xls files and LibreOffice .ods files all work.
Pick the sheet you want. The first 20 rows appear in a preview.
Click Download .csv. To convert every sheet, use Download every sheet; each sheet is saved as its own CSV file.

Things to know about CSV files

A CSV holds one sheet of values. Formulas are saved as their results, and formatting, colors, charts and merged cells are lost.
Dates. With Keep cell formatting on, dates are written exactly as Excel displays them, such as 15/03/2025. Turn it off to get raw values; dates then become ISO text like 2025-03-15, which is easier to load into Python or a database.
Semicolons. If your CSV will be opened in Excel in a country that uses a comma as the decimal separator, choose the semicolon delimiter.
Special characters. The download is UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so accented letters and symbols open correctly in Excel.

FAQ

Is my spreadsheet uploaded?

No. The workbook is read by a JavaScript library (SheetJS) running in your browser. Nothing is sent to our server.

Can it open password-protected files?

No. Remove the password in Excel first (File › Info › Protect Workbook).

Why do some numbers look different in the CSV?

With formatting kept, values appear as Excel shows them, which may round decimals. Untick Keep cell formatting to export the full stored value.
